This from Luke this morning:
"We had a really major rocket attack last night. Multiple b huts got hit, many casualties, no official count yet. I'm glad I'm getting out of here."
If the guys know the rockets are coming, they get out of the B-huts because they are just plywood and not much protection against rockets. There is a bunker near Luke's B-hut where he goes if he knows there is going to be an attack. I don't know if he went there last night or not.
But the other bad news is, he didn't get out of there. The plan was for him to leave the base on Sunday on a flight to Dubai. Then he was going to catch a flight to Atlanta and then on to Costa Rica. He was going to spend the night in San Jose on Monday and then pick us up at the airport on Tuesday when we get in. However, the company running the flight off the base told him the wrong time and he missed the flight. The company is currently working to get him out, but the options are not ideal. He is on standby if any military/cargo flights leave for Dubai. But they don't know if there will be any. So the next option is the security company will drive him to Kabul tomorrow, Monday, and then he will catch a commercial flight to Dubai. Then he will get on his scheduled flights, only a day later. Which would be okay, because we'd all be getting in to San Jose about the same time. Except it means driving on that road to Kabul which is not very safe.
Please pray Luke makes it out of Afghanistan safely. And also for those injured in the rocket attacks.
Thanks for your prayers and I'll keep you posted.
