This from Luke:
"Well I went to bed last night and slept for 14 hours!!!! I can't remember the last time I did that. It took me 8 hours today to get a new military ID, that I need to get to eat and log on to my computer.Things have gotten ugly over here since I left. On may 1st we will be kicked out of our B hut. Right now we would be going into 300 person tents for the duration of our time. NOT looking forward to that. There is no personal space at all, just rows of bunkbeds. No place for computer, tv or personal stuff. We are trying to get some shipping containers to convert. Morale is bad. Our company isn't doing anything about the loss of health care. One of the guys got really sick, and they were going to send him to the Kabul general hospital. Our locals won't even go there. He managed to get treated by the polish doctors that he knew."
To explain a little, Luke lost his wallet (or it was stolen) somewhere during his trip over, which is why he had to get a new military ID. Thankfully when I canceled his bank card and credit card, they had not been used.
Also, when he first went over, there was an arrangement between his company and the military to allow them access to the medical facilities on base. That is where Luke went when he was having trouble with that tooth. Now the military has stopped allowing contractors to use their medical facilities (except in life or death emergencies), which leaves them with pretty much no options. They will have to fly out to another country to see a doctor if they need antibiotics or anything like that.
So combine the loss of medical access with the loss of their very meager sleeping quarters, and you can see why morale is bad. Luke also said that all his projects fell apart while he was gone so he was frustrated about that as well.
All in all, Luke is pretty unhappy about being there right now. His company loses a lot of people after their first home leave, and we can see why. But he is trying to stay strong, remember we are almost debt free, and focus on our vacation to Costa Rica in June.
